About the event
From the well-worn paths of Native Americans to the early airfields that dotted the landscape, transportation in Indiana County has continually evolved. Trails became plank roads, which gave way to paved highways as horse-drawn wagons were replaced by automobiles. Where stagecoaches and canals once provided comfortable travel over long distances, the advent of the railroad—and later, the automobile—revolutionized transportation, making it faster and more economical. Eventually, air travel connected county residents to even farther destinations.
While each advancement made older methods obsolete, it also made travel more efficient and accessible. This exhibit explores Indiana County’s long and storied transportation history, showcasing the ingenuity and innovation that helped Indiana County’s residents get from Point A to Point B just a little bit faster.
Join us for the opening reception of this newest exhibit. The reception is free, but we do ask that you please RSVP for planning purposes.
