library 1_edited.jpg

The Helman Library is located on the first floor of the Armory and is handicap accessible. The Library includes resources such as: town histories, surname files, subject files, family histories, and so much more! Unable to make it to the Library for research? No problem, send us a research request and we will do the research for you.

The HGSIC charges a $5.00 per person fee for non-members to do research in the library. Copies can be made for $0.25 a page.  Laptops are permitted, however we ask that you avoid large personal scanners and printers as space in the library is limited.

One of the resources available for use at the Helman Library is the subject files which contain a number of subjects related to Indiana County history including: businesses, churches, and personalities.  To see a full listing of what we have in our files please click here.

Another helpful source for those doing genealogical research are our subject files.  We have over 26,000 surnames that will help you in your search.  Within these files are birth announcements, obituaries, marriage announcements, and other related newspaper clippings.  To see a listing of what surname files we have click here.

We also have a number of books available in our library which have all been catalogued and available for you to search by clicking here.
