Threads of History Come Alive at "A Century of Style: Indiana's Threads and Times 1890-1980

What did Indiana County look like when coal whistles echoed through the valleys, flappers danced the Charleston, and teenagers huddled around transistor radios listening to rock and roll? This June, the Historical and Genealogical Society of Indiana County invites the community to discover the answer through fashion, storytelling, music, and movement at one of the Society's most entertaining fundraising events yet.

On Friday, June 12, 2026, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Armory, located at 621 Wayne Avenue, guests will journey through nearly a century of Indiana County history during "A Century of Style: Indiana's Threads and Times 1890-1980."

Far more than a traditional fashion show, the evening is designed as a living theatrical portrait of local history. Each scene brings to life the people who shaped Indiana County - from immigrant women in the patch towns and determined one-room school teachers to flappers, stewardesses, disco DJs, and ambitious 1980s professionals. Through carefully researched clothing, detailed narration, and vivid character portrayals, the audience will experience how fashion reflected the changing industries, social expectations, and cultural values of each era.

Returning as Master of Ceremonies is Scott Walton, whose engaging stage presence will guide guests through the decades, weaving together humor, local history, and memorable personalities from Indiana County's past.

Adding even more energy to the evening, students from Sharon's School of Dance will perform period-inspired routines that capture the rhythm and spirit of each generation. From lively Jazz Age dances to rock-and-roll favorites, the performances will help transport audiences directly into the heart of each decade.

Guests will also enjoy an assortment of refreshments throughout the evening, featuring both savory bites and sweet treats designed to complement the event's nostalgic atmosphere.

The production highlights more than changing hemlines and silhouettes - it tells the story of Indiana County itself. Audiences will witness the transition from horse-drawn wagons and coal patch towns to shopping malls, disco culture, and the dawn of the computer age. Along the way, the program celebrates the resilience, ambition, humor, and creativity of the generations who called this community home.

Tickets for this fundraiser may be purchased in person at the Historical and Genealogical Society of Indiana County or online. Early registration is encouraged, as seating is expected to fill quickly for this unique event of fashion, flavor, dance, and Indiana County heritage.

Whether you are a lifelong history enthusiast, a over of vintage fashion, or simply looking for a memorable night out, "A Century of Style" promises an unforgettable walk through the people, places, and personalities that shaped Indiana County across the twentieth century.
